Landscaping
Landscaping
Trailblazer Turf & Timber designs and installs landscaping and hardscaping across Westchester County, Orange County and the Hudson Valley, NY — planting beds, trees and shrubs, sod, landscape lighting, lawn aeration, retaining walls, patios, walkways and fire features. Because we do our own tree removal, we can take the trees down and rebuild the space in one project rather than two.
Estimates Are 100% FreeCall (914) 414-9300We plant healthy, fully branched, well-formed stock and place each plant with care, because high-quality plant material and skilled installation are what a landscape's value grows from. Most tree companies leave when the tree is down; we grind the stumps, regrade the ground and put in the beds, walls or lawn that go there next — one company, one crew, one number to call.
Every project runs from design through finish with the same crew, and our natural stone, brick and paver hardscapes are built from the base up to survive freeze-thaw Hudson Valley winters.

Landscape & Tree Installation
What Goes Into a Landscape That Lasts?
A landscape lasts when the soil is right before anything goes in. Our installations start with soil preparation and planting beds — organic compost, organic fertilizer and beneficial microorganisms to treat and enhance the soil — then healthy, well-formed trees, shrubs and perennials placed where they will actually thrive in this region.
Whether you're starting from scratch, remodeling an existing landscape or restoring a yard after tree removal, we build for both residential and commercial properties. The most common project we see: the dead trees come down, and the newly opened, newly sunlit space becomes lawn, beds or the garden the shade never allowed. Because the same company handles the removal and the installation, that sequence is planned once and priced once.

Hardscaping
What Is Hardscaping, and What Makes It Survive Winter Here?
Hardscaping is the built, non-living half of a landscape — fireplaces, fire pits, hot tub surrounds, water features, pathways, patios and retaining walls. Done well it does real work: improving drainage, holding slopes, reducing erosion and turning unused corners of a property into rooms you actually live in. On the sloped lots common across Westchester and the Hudson Valley, a properly built retaining wall is often what creates the flat, usable yard.
We build with concrete, stamped concrete, pavers, brick and natural stone, and help you choose based on the style of the house, how the space will be used, and your budget. What decides whether hardscaping survives freeze-thaw winters is the part you never see — excavation, compacted base, footing and drainage — and that is where our build effort goes.

Aeration
What Does Lawn Aeration Do, and When Does a Lawn Need It?
Aeration opens up compacted soil and breaks down thatch — the layer of old grass remnants that builds up over time — so air, water and nutrients reach the roots again. A lawn usually needs it when the soil has become hard and dense, when water pools instead of soaking in, when weeds are winning, or when fungal problems keep returning. It is one of the simplest treatments that visibly improves a tired lawn, and it pairs naturally with overseeding and the reseeding we do after tree removal and stump grinding.

Frequently Asked Questions About Landscaping
How much does landscaping cost in Westchester and Orange County?
It depends on the scope — a planting bed refresh, a full lawn installation and a patio with retaining walls are very different projects. Every job starts with a free on-site visit and a written price that covers materials, labor and cleanup, so you know the full cost before anything is dug.
What is the difference between landscaping and hardscaping?
Landscaping is the living part of the yard — lawns, planting beds, shrubs and trees. Hardscaping is the built part — stone walls, patios, walkways and steps. Most finished yards need both, and because one crew handles the two together, the stonework and the plantings are designed to fit each other.
When is the best time to plant in the Hudson Valley?
Early fall is best for most trees, shrubs and lawns — the soil is still warm, rain is more reliable and roots establish before winter. Spring is the second-best window. We plan installations around those windows so new plantings take hold instead of struggling through summer heat.
How long does a landscaping project take?
Small jobs like bed installations or lawn aeration are usually done in a day. A full landscape installation typically runs a few days, and larger projects with hardscaping can take a week or more. You get a timeline with your written estimate, and the same crew stays on the job until it is finished.
